STARTING OVER (OPEN)

The sun was already setting below the horizon when Caden arrived at the first pier; by this time it was already becoming darker save for the spots where the lights from tied up boats and a few well-placed lights lit the way. Caden could feel a light breeze coming off the water bringing with it the cool salty air that made him stop to enjoy as he looked around. In the distance Caden could hear the low slow clanking of the different boats as the waves rocked them up against the docks accompanied by the splashing of water as it lapped up against the pier’s wooden pylons. At the beginning of one of the piers running almost parallel with the first one Caden could see a few buildings, a couple of them resembling a bar or restaurant with a groups of people going in and out or loitering outside having what looked like conversations. What interested him more though was the park placed conveniently at the beginning of this first pier with a few trees and a bunch of well-placed picnic tables positioned underneath a large shelter.



The walk from downtown Port Angeles had been a longer then he had anticipated what with him getting lost at every turn so the picnic tables located there in the park brought a smile to his face as he made his way to one of them to sit down. Planting himself on the seat of one of the ones closest to the water he sat with his back to the table so he could face the water and enjoy the cool night breeze. Once he was seated comfortably resting his back up against the upper part of the table he took the ID card he had been inspecting earlier out of the pocket of his now very ragged, and obviously dirty, pair of jeans, and began flipping it around in his hand not for any reason in particular other than it being something for his hands to do. It was a habit he had been unfortunately developing, with some level of expertise, since he had left Seattle and started hitchhiking his way south. So not owning much more than the cloths on his back and his ID, it being the most expensive, he wasn’t about to let it out of his sight. Even the stranger that had given him a ride into Port Angeles earlier that day had noticed Caden playing with it while in the car. Luckily though the stranger let it go only bringing up that Caden might find some work down at the Pier on some of the fishing boats that came in. The stranger even mentioned the fact that some of the boat captains payed under the table which Caden thought was a bit of an unusual thing to say until he noticed the stranger eyeing the ID as if to say “Don’t worry mums the word.”. So now all Caden could do was wait til morning, or whatever time fisherman usually woke up at, so he could start looking for work and hopefully a new beginning.

Eveline had been cooped up in the house all day and it was not good. She was in a new place and she wanted to have a look around. More importantly she wanted to get a few things before the shops closed so she could make a good impression with the covens around the area, Of which she would be having dinner with soon. Well could you have dinner with Vampires. Would sipping blood from a cub class as dinner? She thought as she left her house just before dusk. It was the best time of night you got to see the last of the working day before all the night creatures come out. The things even humans would not like to see happen. She pulled her leather jacket on as she walked till she was out of sight of the neighborhood and then ran. It was only a quick run and she was by the ocean again. But a busier town then the one she arrived at. She can't believe how much places change in her long life and how things have progressed. She smiles as she slips into the crowd of people walking about their day. They smelt so good and it made Evelin’s mouth water, She had not realised how hungry she was. She would have to have something when she got back later.. She was lucky she could suppress her appetite and it would only be for a few hours at the most.

Evelin had managed to slip into one of the shops before closing and had gotten a few new outfits for her upcoming meetings. Vampires and their politics she thought. It was a nice evening and she wasn't ready to set off home yet. So she wandered around for a while till she found a spot to sit. The air was fresh hear. Better than in forks where their was many things clogging up the forest air. If she did not have business in their she would have asked to settle out her. She glanced around and saw that their was only one other person hear her. She smiled as she glanced his way and returned her gaze to the water and the town. He didn't look like a person she would be associated with but then she knew never to judge a book by it's covers. Their was a cool breeze that was playing with her shoulder length hair. If it was any longer it would be more of a mess then a nice thing. She smiled breathing in the salty air and the humans sent. She was trying to find out about him. She was curious what he was doing alone and so late at night.

As boredom set in Caden flipped the card around in his hand one last time before placing it in his pocket.
“What am I doing here.” He muttered shaking his head to himself as he got up and brushed the dirt off the back of his pants.
“At this rate I’ll die of boredom before the sun comes up.” He continued to mutter sarcastically as he stretched his arms out. “Maybe I should have went downtown for a bit and checked out the night life or something.”

Feeling content with the small amount of stretching Caden made his way to the edge of the pier to get a better view of the water, closing the last 3 or 4 meters between him and the nearby railing. Back home they had nothing like this, though some of the views back home where breathtaking they were absolutely nothing like looking out over the open ocean, especially at night.

Curiosity almost got the better of him though as he leaned over the railing and looked down into the water to watch the shimmering light as it reflected off the waves as they rolled in and rolled out. Luckily for him he had a good grip on the railing and pulled himself back before he ended up face first in the cold water.

Embarrassed he quickly looked around to see if anyone was nearby that would have noticed his stupidity, though he was sure the pier was empty when he arrived, to his dismay there was in fact someone nearby. He couldn’t make out who it was due to the lights being blocked by the large maple trees nearby, but what he could see told him the figure was feminine, he just hoped that she had not seen him almost fall in face first.

Evelyn was trying to get a better look at the strange person. She was trying not to let it be noticed. He was an odd chap but then she had been living in a castle for the past 90 years so she was a little off with how they did things. He was a strange human she thought, how he was looking in the water and she did not know if he would fall in. If he was she was not getting her hair wet. She wished she still had the water ability that she had cloned a few millenniums ago. That was a hand little trick she had collected. She watched him more and had to dart her eyes away as she was laughing. He had nearly fallen in but recovered well. She could not help but chuckle to herself. She could see the guy as clear as day. But he looked like he was having trouble seeing her. So Everlyn got up and walked towards him. She was racking her head as to what to say.

As her boots clicked on the board walk she was thinking a million and one thoughts going through her head how could she make her approach seem less strange. It was at night and they were alone she hoped he did not think she would hurt him. This made a smile flash across her face. Well she could if she wanted too. But she had to be a good little vampire until she had met with the other covens she did not want to step on anyone's toes just yet.

She had gotten nearer and thought she would speak before she got to close she did not know this person either. “Hi…...this may sound so strange but i noticed you looking over the railings into the water…..have you dropped anything?” Her velvet voice hanging in the air with an accent of some wear European. She had to sound nice and polite she needed to see what he was up to and she was a little curious if you could say the least. The breeze was still playing with her short brown hair. Being closer she could see more of him. He was not bad looking and it would be good to have a human friend she could get to know the human ways again. Being shut off had killed her knowledge and in her life knowledge was power.

Briefly Caden thought about turning around and walking the other way not out of any sense of self preservation as there wasn’t much to be afraid of these days, or so he thought, it was more out of embarrassment then anything, he decided against it though just as the figure stood up and began walking toward him. As she headed his way he was taken back by the women’s quickness and elegance with which she moved, the quickness if you could call it that was not really quickness at all but more like efficiency, each movement had a purpose with no clumsy quirks that he would expect a person to have. The other thing that surprised him was the fact that she was coming toward him instead of away, human nature would dictate that a person should go the other way when confronted by a stranger in a dark empty place like this, though what did that make him then, he was neither walking or running away. Any way it was to late to worry about any of that now, might as well make the most of it he thought to himself as he watched her come closer.

When she was finally within talking distance he could just make out the boots she wore that were creating the perfectly timed clicking sound, he also noticed her shoulder length hair as it waved in the late night breeze, and he caught the smile on her face as she got even closer. The young woman was just within handshake distance when a few slivers of moonlight managed to break through the tree canopy briefly lighting up the area, giving him a better view of the young woman. Instantly he was drawn to her beauty it was almost instinctual so much so that it made it hard to look away, if someone were to ask him at that exact moment what exactly he was drawn to he would have been unable to say what it was exactly, sure he had met and gone out with beautiful girls back home but this was something else entirely. Knowing he couldn’t answer the question frustrated him just a little, but luckily he didn’t have to dwell on it for long.

“Hi…...this may sound so strange but i noticed you looking over the railings into the water…..have you dropped anything?”
He heard her say with a velvet voice that had the sound of a eastern european accent behind it.

“No no” he said with a smile on his face as he glanced to the railing he had almost fallen over and then back again.

“I was just enjoying the view of the water is all.” Caden said as he reflexively patted his pants pocket to make sure the ID was still there.

“Would have been an interesting night if I had dropped something, would have had to go swimming or something” He said grinning as he pointed to himself and his lack of swimming attire, not realizing that she may not get it.

“Whats a young women like yourself doing out here this late at night anyway?” he questioned flicking his head upward toward her as he said it. “You don’t look like you’re from around here?”

Evelyn looked at the man before her, He looked like he had not slept the best in a few days but he was not bad to the eyes though her sense of smell being heightened more than humans from being a vampire she knew he had not see a bath in a while. She was not saying he was unclean but he could use a bath. She could not help but look a little offended when he was not wanting her help. How could she keep talking to this pore lost soul if he would not want her help. When he continued on she knew she could keep talking to him. Though she did find it a little amusing that he was just looking at the water. She knew he was human she could smell the blood through his veins pumping a steady rhythm. If she breathes she would have lt out a sigh but a smile crossed her face. She would still talk to this fellow even if it's just for a little fun for her this evening.

His joke was a little lost on her but she smiled at him still. “Would have maid for an interesting story to tell someone over coffee” She said with the smile on her face. Before she could think of anything else he was asking her questions. This was new she usually was the one in charge dominating the conversation but she had to remember she was not dealing with her Vampire buddies just a man. “I was out shopping and generally passing time and then next thing i knew it was dark.” She smiled. She had only managed to get to one shop before they all closed but if he knew how women like shopping she would get away with it. A little bit of shock flashed across her face, the guy was well travelled or at least knew his stuff. “I'm for Europe, have you been?” She asked. She thought all of her travels would have masked the little twang in her voice. “So you have asked me what i'm doing out here and you're here to look at the water, that doesn't sound like a serial killer's alibi at all” She laughed as she said it.

Of course he thought to himself, shopping, thats usually what women did right or so he thought, he never paid much attention to those types of details. He continued to listen as she continued with her answering of his questions only stopping once she made the comment about serial killer’s.

She laughed as she made the comment and he politely laughed along with her though he had a puzzled look on his face as he wasn’t sure what exactly she was laughing about, was she laughing at him or making a joke about the fact that he was watching the water.

Either way it didn’t bother him too much as he found it a bit funny and even a tad odd when he replayed his comment over in his head and realized that to your average person it would sound a tad crazy that someone would be all alone out here late at night just looking at the water, it definitely sounded like a horrible alibi if he ever heard one. He should know back home he was the king of alibis he thought to himself.

Responding to her last comment Caden looked around from side to side as if he was looking to see if anybody else was nearby before he leaned in toward her smiled and then whispered to her.
“Serial killer hunh? I guess that makes a little sense.”

Caden straightened himself up before continuing on with his normal voice. “What about you though? Wouldn’t that make you a serial killer too maybe some kind of Shopping Spree Killer or something like that?” he finished chuckling as he said the last bit.

Before she replied Caden raised his hand with his index finger pointing up as if to say hold on one more thing. “and no never been to Europe.” he said shaking his head “I’ve always wanted to go visit a few places over there since I was in school, just never had the chance.” he said.

Having said what he wanted to say he raised his hand up and scratched his nose relieving himself of an annoying itch before letting it fall to his side relaxed.
